It was a nice ride! Many turns around the route still really wet especially the road that cover under shade - but most of the road were dry. And... I am slow - there I said it =/ Man, I was just keep eating the dust of the BMW 1000RR and 749. But still - glad to be out with my Classic... it was probably the best winter ride!

I have received a lot of questions recently regarding the Contour camera mounting options and locations, and what kind of hardware I use. Instead of answer it one by one, I think it should be a stand-alone post so it's easier for future reference...

The Sport 1000 has tons of possible mount locations. I could of just mount it directly on the trellis frame; but I really don't want to risk damaging the frame. That's why I picked these two locations: over handle bar and on the frame slider post. I use the standard RAM Zinc Coated U-Bolt Base w/1" Ball. It came with 2 U-shaped bracket, and I just pick whatever fit best. I also use the half round plastic filler piece (included) to increase traction, As you can see, the mounting locations that I picked were pretty un-noticable until I put on the mounting arm and camera. BTW, the mount on the handle bar is actually mounted on the master cylinder - basically I'm running out of room on the clip-ons. Also, I mounted them on the left side (facing front) only for easier control on-the-fly. So far both locations work really well!

It's all started about 3 months ago when the weather still nice and warm - I found a small hole at the right palm of my Full Metal Pro leather glove. At the end of the 3rd season after more than 3 yrs of ownership, it's normal to have some wear and tear. I just wanted to fix it - seriously, I love the Full Metal Pro - it's soft, light weight, full of protection, and the best is, IT FITS ME LIEK MY SECOND SKIN. So I bought back to D-Store in San Francisco and asking for help. Mike from D-store told me that the hole is not located at a normal tear location so I may need to pay for repair if the warranty didn't cover the repair cost; but they will process it anyway. I was completely fine with it - all I want is get it fixed...

So after 3 months of waiting (sounds long but it's normal for warranty work. Due to the weather change, it too cold to use the Full Metal Pro anyway so it's OK for the wait), Mike called saying that a new pair of glove is waiting for me! It feels like Christmas all over again =) Thank you D-Store for their excellent service; and thank you Dainese to stand with their products once again.

It's time to say Goodbye to year 2011! It had been a lot of ups and downs but somehow we all still manage to ride through it. There is nothing better than have a nice easy group ride in an unusually warm December weather to end the year. I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did!

Here you go! Something short as a test clip. I attached my Contour camera on a suction cup; but I realized that the camera shaken pretty badly due to the heavier locking head on the suction cup. I have been exploring different mounting methods and locations - hopefully new video clips come soon. Stay tune!

After some back and forth finally I made a decision to get Contour ROMA. People may ask why not GoPro Hero HD? I own a older Hero, and the image quality and sound quality were both very good. But both the mounting and operation were really painful - half of the time I can't even tell the unit is on! The worst part is the mount - you HAVE TO keep the unit up-right, and deal with all the little mounting pieces on the go just simply too much to deal with. So I decided to give Contour a shot. I was thinking about getting the nicer unit - Contour GPS. It has full HD recording; plus GPS tracking to tell exactly your path and location. But after going through some user reviews I realize I rather trade the GPS function for a longer battery life and simpler operation. Just one slid on the top of the unit, it's on and start recording! SImple and easy. It offers Full HD recording at 30 fps and 170 degree wide angle (unlike the Contour GPS, it offers Full HD at 60fps but at 125 degree only). It has laser guild to make sure the lens stay horizontal and it's water proof too (up to 1m depth). The best part is, it's about $70 cheaper then Contour GPS!

I got myself a nice mounting to go along with my new toy - RAM Mounting System. It's made by marine grade aluminum with 1" rubber balls for vibration isolation. Everything so far comes together well - can't way for field this Sunday! Stay tune!

While my bike still in the shop, let's go shopping! Just kidding... but I do need a pair of shorties to fit my jackets better. The sleeves of both the Racing jacket and the HF Special jacket just a bit too long for the long gloves to handle. So... I picked the 4 Stroke. After 5 weeks of wait finally it arrived. After close inspection I found out that It's not as well made as Piston (sold on Ebay a year ago); but the 4 Stroke is still pretty nice - and it's a lot cheaper - $60 cheaper then the original Piston. Seriously I don't where Dainese cuts corner.... But it's for sure looks good and feel good for me! One small complain - the pinky has a lot of protection - which is good; but it's pretty painful to break-in. Oddly enough, the higher priced items like Full Metal actually needs less time (if not none) to break-in. I guess that's where the fitment and craftsmanship comes in.

Yeah, it's like Christmas in July =)

I have been eyeing on a new leather jacket for some time since I sold my beloved Delmar jacket few weeks back - and finally I found this nice white Racing jacket (big thanks to Mike at D-Store San Francisco). One thing I learn from my old Delmar jacket is that the so-called aerodynamic spoiler is really unless POS when it comes to street riding. My suit has one - it looks cool and fast, and it keeps my temperature down during the hot day. But in the case of jacket, especially without vent, it just adds extra weight without any real benefit. In fact, it creates problem when I use backpack. So it's time to get something simple and light wight for work day riding. The fitting of the Racing jacket is great. It's light in weight (comes without heavy liner) and fit me really well compare to the new Delmar, Alain, and Santa Monica (BTW, Santa Monica is one of the very best jacket out there; but I was informed that it will be discontinued in next season - that translated into big saving at the end of this riding season. Anyone interested, make sure add yourself into D-store mail list).

Next thing will be nice shorty gloves...

Thank you Ace and Triumph USA putting the event together. There was about 20 demo bikes available for test ride - pretty much full line of current Triumph products. I was plan to check out the Street Triple and Tiger 1050; but the line was too long and the spots filled up quickly. End up I got the Bonneville SE and Scrambler. Both bikes are really down-to-earth kind of ride - raw and simple. Bonneville is fun in an odd way - very very slow, and I actually can relax hitting redline (to the point.... falling asleep?). Scrambler is just fun - the pipes give a very special exhaust tones (sounds like a very very angry duck!). It has more kicks than Bonneville; but the brake on both bikes are equally bad. I really don't think I will ever get one of these bikes... but hey, no one should say never...

There are still day two! I wonder I have time after the Ducati Rider Portrait’s Photo Project opening reception in Sunnyvale Art Gallery....

Lucky me!!! Great find from Craigslist - it is a older retro style Dainese HF Special Leather jacket from 2007 model year. The leather is a bit dry but without over stretching or road rush. After some love (cleaning and leather conditioner), it looks great!!! Perfect match with my Classic... that's if I get my Classic back >_<

As much as I love Arai, the pod system really bothering me. It's loud (wind noise), changing shield is painful, and it's un-relible. This is the second time it fails on me - luckily both times happened off ride. Odd thing is both failed on the left side... But I have to said the warranty is great - file my new open ticket online and got respond and confirmation on the following day. Hmm... will I buy Arai again? Really not sure... So far 4 of my Shoei (RF1000, and three X-11s) are all fail proof - nothing broke even after I crashed! What can I say???

Ran into two police officers at the Wall this afternoon, and all the riders hugging around the Wall had a nice chat with both officers. Finally I had a close up view of their ride - both old and new at once. Both of them were not exactly looking for speeder but people slowed down respectively anyway. It was a nice chat on a warm Sunday afternoon - yeah, I got a big fat ticket just 4 weeks ago but I really have nothing against them. After all, we all love motorcycle to the bone... and there are much to learn from their riding skill.

It was a great Sunday run!!! After 3 weeks of bed weather and busy work schedule, I finally able to ride on dry clean pavement on weekend. This is the first longer ride after the 18K mile service. Overall the bike runs great but it dies on me when I came to stop or at launch - fueling is way too lean. Seems like the FAR is somehow off. I suspect Ace replaced the re-usable air filter with something ales and FAR is a bit off. It's time to dive into the ECU again....

New addition to my helmet 'collection' - this is my first AGV/Ducati helmet! Compare to both of my Aria and Shoie; the AGV/Ducati is much lighter. This is not exactly a top-end model; but somehow it fits my head much better especially around my ears compare to the GP-Tech or T2. It looks nice from a distance; but for sure missing nice paint details like X-11/X-12. Well, for $399, I guess I can't ask for too much. Will see how it performs... stay tune for review!

Finally it arrives after 2 weeks of wait!!! My old Dainese Laguna Seca Pro suffers small surface damages from my last crash, and it's not to the point where I can't wear it anymore; but what the hell - let's leave it for my track day. After looking around a bit I decided to go with Dainese once again - it's pricey; but it's really well build and fits me well. Within the Dinese line; 3 suits fit me well within my budget - Red line, Laguna Seca Pro, and Avro... so end up I picked the Avro. BTW, big thanks to D-Store in San Francisco helping me to pick a right one. Avro is the most comfortable one. It fit better than Laguna Seca Pro, and much much better than Red line - really can't used to the "bib design". So far I like it a lot; but it's not prefect - sleeves are about .5" too long for me. For your reference, it's size 38/48, and I am 5'-8" and weighted 153lb (lost about 10lb since last suit - down sized from 40/50!!!). It has enough room for under suit and full size Dainese back protector.

Can't wait for a ride tomorrow with my new suit!

It's time! 18K happy mile for my Sport Classic - I consider it is a achievement. The service includes replace timing belts, air filter, oil filter, flashing all fluid, and checking valve clearance. I have them to replace the clutch plates and basket for me too - after 18000 mile of hard launches and engine brake, it's time for replacement. She will have the newly coated tank #3 too - this going to be pretty major service for her. As usual, she is in trusted hands of Ace Motosports once again. Can't wait to bring her home tomorrow.

After weeks of rain, finally the sun is up once again. This was the first ride after my accident, and I re-visited the crash site... Feeling a bit sad seeing a piece of fairing lying on the side of the road... but at least that wasn't my dead body.

It was a great ride! I was there early enough there wasn't much of a traffic, and the roads were dry and clean - feel like I am walking away the shadow of my accident and ready once again for the riding season =)

After 7 weeks of wait, tank #3 has finally retuned to me from Hattar Motosports. They have a 3rd-party contractor working on all in-coming tank coating job, and Hattar offers life time warranty against any gas tank deformation due to the defect of coating. This is the second time I use their service - for whatever possible opportunity, I do prefer support the local business; especially dealing with a new tank with high shipping cost.

This is the first time I have have chance to inspect what kind of work been done. The tank as dual layer of 3M silver metallic color coating, and it acts as a barrier between the plastic tank and gasoline. $235 with life time warranty - not too bad. Before the deer killed my Streetfighter, the coated tank was working perfectly fine. I will have Ace Motosports to do the installation along with the new clutch. I will post update soon. Stay tune.

We still in a fairly tough time in general, and I am not ready to drop over $300 for a set of Speedymoto belt covers - they are nicely made; but seriously, the design is a bit 'dry'. So maybe there is something I can do by using the existing parts. Here is the end product of good 2 hrs work - not bad at all especially after wet sanded and spray painted.

For any one who want to create his/her own unique design without robbing a bank; here is a list of tool and material you need:

- Rotary tool, I have Demeral 4000 with accessories kit
- A work station, or something to hold the rotary tool
- Sand paper from 100 to 800 (wet sand)
- Spray paint: Primer and any color you want

BTW, make sure you know that you are doing it at your own risk. There is endless discussion out there about the good and bad of open belt covers - I personally care less of that's other said. The bottom line is it's your own bike, and you can do what-ever you like on it as long as it is legal. If you still with me, read on...

So, first off, come up with a design - make sure you know and clear about what to cut and what to keep. Once you make up your mind you can start cutting. For plastic, higher RPM of the rotary tool and new cut bit are recommended. Make sure you have enough work surface to move the cover freely. The actual cut time is relatively short if you know what you are doing. Rotary tool is very easy to use but you should always rear a nice pair of safety glasses. Once separate your design from the stock cover, it's time to sand it down and smooth all the rough edges. Work from #100 sand paper all the way up to #400, and make sure everything clean, smooth, and nice. Since I am going to use matt black as the final finish; there is no reason to go any higher than #400 sand paper. But if you want thing reflective, #800 wet sand is a must. after cleaning the parts, they are ready for primer. Two layers of primers and minimum two layers of finish paint are recommended. Allow at least 1 hour to dry for each layer of paint, and make sure you wet sand (#400 sand paper) between layers.

So there you go - it is a very simple weekend project. I hope you enjoy it as much as me =)

Somehow managed to take a quick spin before the Christmas family gathering. It had been raining hard and the roads were still a bit wet with gravel everywhere especially around the hilly areas. End up I did a average 40MPH run - I think I broke my personal slowest record on the same route. Not bad actually - just wanted to enjoy the peaceful foggy morning ride, stayed up-right, and came home in one piece. It is Christmas after all...

A very cold Thanks Giving day solo run

Thanks Giving dinner didn't start until 6pm - so I had a few hours for a quick solo ride. The only problem was the weather - it was way too cold. At 10am, under the sun felt like 43F (6C); and once under shade it was like down to 38 (3C)! When I was out there, 80% of the roads were actually dry and clean; but if there is any wet spot, I needed to be super careful since it could have 'black ice'. The trip still turned out nicely without any problem and the cold weather was perfect for testing out my new winder gear. I got the heated inner layer under the new Dainese D-dry suit, and Under Armour Coldgear undersuit. Thanks to the heated layer; my body was toasty warm even at 80mph. The only problem was my hands - so cold that I can't even feel my fingers. I guess it is time to look into winter groves...

So I finally meet the new Diavel at the International Motorcycle Show! It was one muscle bike! Fat rear tire, strong engine... There were a lot of nice details, like the hidden passenger pegs and handle bar, split radiators, and very cool wheel hub mounted license plate holder. But seriously, the proportion of the motorcycle was all wrong - at least to me. The bar was way too high, tank was too long, and pegs were too forward. Felt like riding a pig LOL. Will see how it turns out once it hits the road.

Finally I have some serious winter riding gears! The Dainese Fulcrum boots are light, warm, water and wind proof and yet still breathable. Somehow it runs one size bigger (I used to wear size 43; but it fits me well at 42). The only complain that I have is at the end of the toe area seems to be too roomy - so my toes vibrate inside the boots a bit - and I felt a bit tied after a long ride. It is not really big deal since I can always add a pair of thin shoes pad or thicker socks to make it fits better. So far after 400 miles trip mix with wet and dry weather, it seems holding up really well.... I highly recommend it!

BTW, I got this boots at 40% off at Hattar Motorsports annual sale... Thanks Hattar!

So this is the first time I ever wear a full non-leather suit - it actually not as bad as I thought. All the leather jackets and suit that I have are for summer use. I do, in fact, have a very good under suit to regulate my body temperature; but it can only do so much, especially under high amount of air flow and wet weather during the ride. Hopefully D-dry system will be the answer - something that about to withstand wind and rain, offers protections, not too loose in cutting, and most important of all, it has to look good!

I got a new pair of all season boots too - the Dainese Fulcrum boots. It is not as nice looking as other top of the line racing boots; but for sure it is the most comfortable pair of boots I ever own. Full soft leather with protection and Gore-tex liner insider for water proofing, and fit really well with the Pro-dry pants (P Sherman Pro-Dry). The only concern is the pants is not as 'sticky' as leather.... Will post review later after the first ride - stay tunes!

I have been on Pinehurt many many times - I consider it is my 'extended backyard'. It is a B grad road - narrow, shady, and full of turns. It is not exactly a technical road; but most of the turns are blind curves and very tight, and rock and gravel always hide behind turns to surprise riders. It is still manageable for road bike - but I would stay away from it after a big storm... Regardless of road condition, a quick run on Pinehurst always put a big smile on my face =)

Did a very nice solo run today at Lake Berryessa and Lake Hennessy. Just like 3 weeks ago, the city was cold and windy (even rain this morning!); but once I hit the mountain and lake area somehow the sky just opened up - it was sunny and warm; and the rain and wind kept a lot of people away. See route here, and yeah, roads were pretty empty! =D

The only thing pull me back a bit was an accident - I ran into a accident scene. It wasn't pretty at all, and I really hope the rider made it through. This reminds me shit could happen any time to any of us...

It has been too long since I rode her for a longer trip. Took a Friday off and took my Classic out for a nice relax morning ride. Oh boy, I miss that feeling - she was smooth and full of fun. The only small complain is the clutch - after 15K mile it is about time to replace the dry clutch plates - it starts slip a little when I push hard from stop light. Beside that everything runs as it should be - and it was a very nice ride!

Been a long while since I took her out - I took my time to research on the rear brake lock up situation and micro adjust the rear brake. Thanks for all the suggestions on Ducati MS - it works fine now. The engine reached 200F with no sign of lock up or pressure build-up on the rear brake master cylinder. Yeah, I rode her pretty hard today : )

I have been riding my Street Fighter S for the past 2 months; and I have to admit I am a bit out of shape for the Sport 1000 riding position (man, compare with Sport 1000, the Street Fighter rides like dream!). But... I do miss the roughness of the Sport 1000! For sure I will take her out more...

Sigh... man... it happened again today!!! I was out for a short ride (miss riding her - I have't riding her for more than 4 weeks), and everything went well for a good 12 miles freeway run at average 90mph ride. Just when I exited freeway and got ready for some local twisty roads, I noticed the bike had sluggish respond at low speed - so I stopped on the side and checked it out. The bike slowed down fast even without any front brake input - and just like what I suspected, the rear brake was almost locked up by itself with light smoke coming out. Lucky the engine wasn't heated up like last time; but at stop in neutral, I couldn't move the bike a bit. Rear lever was rock hard... I just simply don't understand this - I didn't even touch the rear bike for the entire ride (I am one of those front brake only rider)!!!

Because of the last incident, I replaced the entire rear brake system - master, slave, disk, bolts, pads, line, and bracket. I really don't understand why and how this could happen again... One side note, after the bike cooled off, I can move the bike again and the rear brake function as it should - the free play of the lever came back. BTW, I always put a lot of free play on the rear since I did low sided my first bike years ago due to the lock up. I don't have the exact measurement, but I guess I have good 4mm of free play before the rear brake engages...

Has anyone has the similar problem before? I was lucky to noticed it soon enough without cooking my engine (last time as 260F!!!); but still hot enough to melt small section of rubber clutch gasket..

It has been a while since I update my Sport Classic blog. Not only I have been busy at work, I have been busy on the new Streetfighter S also - especially on choosing new parts and modifications. To make it worse, I can't ride in past 2 weeks - my beloved Puma 1000 V1 has failed! It broke apart a lot sooner than I expected (weekend usage for 9 months only), and I am waiting for replacement or refund from DNA (very slow process BTW). That's really too bad. But believe it or not, I have just ordered the Puma boot again (but newer and improved - Puma 1000 v3). I have to say Puma has probably the best riding boots out there - it fits me well, and there is no zipper, no pressure point, and it never gets hot inside. The broken backing piece is a common problem of the older design... hopeful the new one won't have the same problem.

Can't wait the new one arrive!

Just added the new SpeedyMoto frame slider just for cheap insurance... and I am ready to ride! Will take her out for a spin tomorrow!

The last set of tires lasted for about 3K mile before the replacement mark showed up. I had a pair of Pirelli Diablo Corsa 3 - in fact, the last set was my third set of Corsa 3. Excellent summer tire, and it never fail me. But the major complain was the soft compound - too soft for road use. I can basically break in a new set as short as 30 mile of normal street riding, and it won't last more than 3K of spirited riding. Corsa 3 are expensive too - average $350 a set. So... maybe it is time for a change.

Based on excellent reviews from both online and riding buddies, I decided to give Michelin PP2ct a try. It is not exactly so call the 'latest technology" (Power Pure is the latest); but that's also the reason why PP2ct has long history of good reviews at a very reasonable price. So far I love mine - and I actually almost able to get rip of all my chicken strips with confidence. Comparing with Corsa 3, the PP2ct is quicker at turns; but it is harder and take longer to warm up - and less road feels. So far I love it, and can't wait to push hard on the rubber!

First of all big thanks to Ace Motorsports and Ducati North America putting this wonderful two days event together. A lot of local riders showed up, and I took this chance seriously for testing out two of the possible 'what's next' bikes - 2010 Ducati Streetfighter and 848. The test route was mixed with city streets with stop and go traffic, suburb neighborhood, and some basic level one twisties. It was a sunny dry day at 72 degree - perfect day for test ride!

2010 Streetfighter base model:

- The Engine
One word - SWEET! The engine was strong, responsive, and sharp. It just pull and pull - felt like I never able to find the end of it. It is so strong that almost a bit scary for the more upright riding ergo (will take a bit more in ergo section).

- The Clutch:
It came with a dry clutch unit, and the clutch pull was typical ducati hard. Just unfortunate that the test bike that I had has a sticky non-adjustable lever, and it didn't have enough room to fit two of fingers in between while still maintain good control. I have to use all 4 fingers on the lever to keep the engine alive - not really a big deal, and I got used to it in no time. But still, I feel like the friction zone is a bit short, and it zone ended at about a bit sooner than I expected.

- The riding ergo
Both the sale and the DNA resp told me the Streetfighter had a very aggressive riding ergo. But compare with my Sport 1000, the SF actually fitted me perfectly. The bar was high enough but not too high, and my cone of vision was wide open - I don't even see the gauge! The best part is, unlike the Hypermotra, I felt like I was sitting inside the bike. I felt secure and able to ride it all day long. The only complain I have was the right peg - the heat shield was hitting my boot. Sitting height was just right - similar to my Sport 1000.

- The chassis
The bike was light! I felt it even when the bike was standing still. Suspension was descent (test bike was the Base model without Ohlins); and it was responsive and linear. The wide handle bar gave me a lot leverage to push the bike from left to right. Combine with the strong engine light weight chassis, the bike was so alive on the twisties.

2010 848 base model:

- The engine
The engine was a bit of the let down, especially after riding the SF. It was too soft and too lazy. The pull just simply can't compare with the Streetfrighter - felt like it was only a bit stronger than my Sport 1000. I would expect more since after all it is a higher HP and newer engine on a much lighter chassis compare with Sport 1000.

- The clutch:
I wasn't feeling too hot about wet clutch until I actually using it. The friction zone was wider than Streetfrighter, and the clutch respond was liner and predictable. But believe it or not, the clutch pull was harder than most Ducati bikes including the Streetfrighter. It was really pain in the butt when I was stuck in traffic...

- The riding ergo
The best of 848 offered me was the bump at the fairings - my knees were able to rest on it, and it provided an anchor point when I wanted to tuck-in. Thanks to the supersport design, my legs able to easily 'grab' the tank while I hung off the bike. It was a bit relax riding position compare with my old bike; but it is for sure still not a ideal ergo for everyday use. The sitting height was nice - felt like it was half an inch lower.

- The chassis
In contrast to the Streetfighter, the 848 was lazy in twisties. It needed a bit of the effort to push due to the shorter and lower handle bars (which is similar to my Sport 1000). It is just the nature of the supersport bike and I think I could suck it up. But what really surprised me was the heat issue. Yesterday wasn't a hot day to ride; but somehow both of my knees were cooking. It was almost as bad as my Sport 1000... on both knees!

I think I am pretty sure the 848 won't be on my list any longer while I was lusting all over the new Streetfighter :D~

BTW, I fianlly able to sit on the new legendary Multistrada 1200. It was a very nice bike in real life without the fat - it actually a lot smaller than what I was expected. Can't wait to test ride (or own) it!

Rear brake melt down update

Riding without rear brake sound kind of dangerous; but 95% of the time I don't really use it anyway except taking off from slope or stabilize my bike at parking lot speed. The event of bursted rear line and cooked rear rotor didn't really bother me - until I need to fix it...
General speaking, for the parts that I use a lot (like clutch / tires/ front break / engine related) I really don't mind to spend top money for upgrading. But rear brake... I simply don't see why I need to upgrade it. So the goal was fixing it at the lowest price; and make sure it will never happen again. After some serious search with the help of Ducati MS's member, I found all the parts I needed on Ebay. For $175, I got everything from rear master cylinder onward - including line, pads, rotor, slave, even bolts. I through I was set since I was under the assumption that air bubble trapped inside the line, and it caused the rear brake locked up. But guess what, I was wrong. After my local shop replaced all the parts and bleed the brake - I can't believe it, rear brake still stuck!!! WTH???
So after some discussion with the shop, few phone calls to the dealership and research online, the root of the problem seemed from the old master cylinder. The spring inside the cylinder fail to push the piston back to the original position... the only way to make sure the meltdown won't happen again was replacing the mast cylinder too. In other word, I basically replaced my rear brake system. It cost additional $50 for the mast cylinder (which was surprising cheap for original Brembo part) and additional hour of labor... And I have a feeling that all my old parts probably still working fine except the f**k up master cylinder...
Lesson to learn - Don't put any assumption. And of cause, I need to learn how to bleed brake / clutch line!

This is probably once in the life thing... I really hope it only happens once...

So, the weather was warm and the sky was clear. I geared up with my new leather suit and heading out for a nice Spring ride. Part of my route was going uphill for about 5 to 6 mile with long line of traffic. So I was on first and second for quite some time. Engine was hot - but somehow it jumped to 260F - which was really unusual. I though it was just because of the warm weather and uphill slow ride so I just keep going. But after some point I felt like the bike was dragging. First thing came to my mind was air leak of my rear tire. So I stopped at once and checked out what's going on. Man, I could not believe my eye... I had a red hot rear rotor with cooking break pads along with smoke and burning small. If I dragging any longer I am sure it will be on fire! I let it cool off (both my bike and my mind) and try to find out what's going on. My rear break was completely locked, and my engine was fighting with the rear break; and that's why engine was way over heated. In order to get going and cool the engine, I need to somehow fix the locked rear break. After the close inspection, I found out that the rear break pedal was at OFF position but the brake was fully at closed position. There must be a pressure builded up inside the system. I opened the reservoir and see if it help but nothing happened. So I press the pedal hard and see if I can push through it - I can't believe it - the break line bursted right in front of me!!! Hot gas and oil spilled out; lucky the brake point was at the caliper pointing down and nothing spill into my face. Small amount of oil end up sitting at the rear tire and rim. I cleaned up with a piece of old cloth quick enough and nothing stay on to tire... so at least I can get going and somehow try to enjoy the the rest of the ride without rear break (I don't use it anyway)...

Here is my guess of what happened: I replaced the rear reservoir not long ago, and somehow small amount of air trapped inside the line (which is odd - since I only replace the reservoir only). The long slow uphill ride raised the engine temperature, which reached the point where the air expended inside the line and close up the pads. While the engine was fighting with the rear break; more heat generated and cause the rear break close even more...

So here is the damage: A pair of cooked pads, discolored rotors, and a bursted rear break line. I believe my rear caliper discolored with some internal damage too... basically I need to replace everything after the rear master cylinder.

Hopefully fellow riders will learn something from my mistake... parts will be expensive...

Funny thing is, after the drama I still manage to have a wonderful ride - thanks to all of my riding buddies! I will post up the ride picture soon!

Gear review - Dainese Laguna Seca Pro Suit & Under Armour under suit

Today I finally have a chance to field test both the Dainese suit and Under Armour Cold Gear under suit. Weather was mild at upper 50s, low wind with overcast sky, and the road is dry at around 6pm... It was a perfect riding condition. After I put everything on, started the engine, and riding down the street - oh man, it was really day and night different between one piece and two pieces suit. First of all, the pressure at my belly was COMPLETELY GONE. Second, thanks to Dainese cutting, I felt like riding naked! The air moves really well inside the suit (almost too much), and I am sure I will need all air movement during the summer months.

Following are what impressed me just after a short 50 miles twisties ride:
- Felt like my suit was my second skin - Dainese cutting was fantastic.
- It was a perfect combination of the Pro suit and my Cold gear under suit - keep me warm without taking space.
- Very comfortable at aggressive riding position.
- A LOT of air movement without feeling cold - it proved the under suit works really well with the outer shell.
- My neck can move freely thanks to the low collar cutting.
- Sliding from left to right feels quicker now.
- Cooling and exhaust grills at the speed hump actually works!

Here are some minor drawbacks:
- Sleeves were a bit long - I wash they were 1/4" to 1/2" shorter.
- It was a tight fitted suit... so there wasn't much room for my man's part. Oh yeah, balls slam tank! No fun!
- No usable storage available inside the suit - so I have to hold my credit card, phone, helmet, key, and gloves... did I mention I try to hold my coffee at the same time too?
- No sitting - the speed hump took over my back! Since speed hump was hollow... I can't really rest on it.
- Forget about walking - felt like a moving condom...
- Did I mention balls slam tank?

Feels like it going to be really hard for me to go back to two pieces suit - maybe in winter months when I actually need the heated vest... Now, the real question is - what I going to do with a closet full of Dainese jackets and pants???

After all these years of thinking... finally jump into the pool of one piece leather. I really should do it much earlier! The fitment is excellent (with under suit and full size Dainese back protector), and not more pressure point at my waist. It sounds expensive (it is for me); but compare with the money that I drop on two pieces... it is actually cheaper believe it or not. Beside, it is a prefer reason to keep myself in shape. I have not try this on my Sport Classic yet - hopefully it will be a happy match. BTW, with the help of my under-suit, getting in & out is a piece of cake - I will give a detail review once hit the road.

I guess I really running out of excuse not do track day ... stay tune! =)

Bike modification update - Rizoma goodies

Just like 'typical' Ducati owners; we replace parts for fun...so this time I focus on the clutch, and the finish up the 'left over' rear reservoir. My old EVR vented pressure plate and clutch cover were both in very nice working order... but then again, replacing parts are like changing cloths.... Anyway, the operation was easy, and it went well without any incident. I replaced the pressure plate bearing too - it was the original bearing and it is time to be replaced.
Rizoma by far still the market leader in motorcycle custom parts - we're talking about super high quality Italian machinery, not something that made cheap in China. Rizoma parts are expensive; but IMO they are the best. Period. And I am a very happy return customer!
Road still a bit wet from the major Easter Sunday storm - really can't wait to take her out for a spin!

Would Hypermotard be my next ride?

Finally after all these years I had a chance (& gut) to test ride a Hypermotard. I borrowed it from my riding buddy and took her for a spin during my weekend ride. I have been worry for test ride HM before due to two main reasons: riding height and engine power. It is obviously that I have height challenge; but what's really concern me is the engine power in relationship to the riding position.... it is truly a "wheelie machine", and the last thing I want is flipping my friend's bike!

After a short back road ride I think I finally finger out what's missing in my ride. Here is the list of things that "WOW" me at the time I rode off:
- Back and wrist pain were gone!
- Feels like I can see miles of road ahead of me.
- Riding at fully engaged first gear at 12 MPH without stalling - not sure about other bikes; but for Ducati dry clutch it is a major achievement!
- Without additional weight added to my wrist, the throttle control was like a dream - exact and precise.
- High and wide handle bar provide a lot of steering leverage.

Here are the drawbacks... at least for me on this test bike:
- Clutch-pull is typical Ducati hard - or maybe worse.
- Where is my clutch pedal? I have to look down and look for it - especially up shift...
- Kick-stand is rock-hard to kick in or out.
- Very light steering... scary light!
- So-so break; but far better than my Sport Classic.

There are many after market solutions for all the draw back factors... overall it is a very positive test ride - it is a fun, responsive, quick, and well made bike. I don't feel like it is as solid as my beloved Classic; but flexibility gave my the 'lightness' that I have been searching for. Will the Hypermotard be my next ride? Maybe the Hypermotard S; and I still can't get my eyes off the Super bike like 1198 - so many possibilities, so little budget....

This was by far the best ride in 2010! Took a different route this time. It was a lot more technical and demanding especially around the Apline Lake area; but it was well worth the risk and effort. The breathtaking view almost make my ride impossible! The best part was roads were almost empty during the early morning hours, and free of an police or park ranger. See Google map for my route - unlike HW1, this route is only recommended for someone has experience in "deep twisties" in the wood - after today ride, it really makes me wonder maybe I should get a motard as my second bike!

The weather seems to stabilized a bit lately, and I start my very first Spring 'longer' ride. Riding along HW1 was made me feel so lucky to live in California. Weather is still a bit cold especially in early morning; but I still like to start early to avoid traffic and squids. Thank to my TourMaster heated vest keeping me warm, and my Dainese Delmar perforated jacket keep me chill in the warmer afternoon sun. I know it sounds odd to have a combination of heated vest and perforated jacket (it is like turning on heater and AC at the same time); but in micro-climate area like Bay Area, it actually work quiet well without being too cold or over heated...

Check out my route for reference. Roads on this route are really smooth; but have to watch out of falling rock after the storms like today. A lot of clutch control in uphill Mill Valley residential area with slow and narrow traffic; once once you hit the top of the hill it will be smooth sailing. Ride safe and have fun!

The weather was warm and sunny, and a lot of motorcyclists like myself had a wonderful time today. It has been too long since I last visited the Wall along with some of my favorite local back roads. Today the roads was clean, and almost free of cops (at least my route)... my body was aching after the ride but it was well worth!

Check out my route above (for all the local riders who's not familiar with East Bay). Keep in mind that both Redwood and Skyline are B to C route - meaning that the road conditions are far from perfect. Roads on this route are generally bumpy, narrow, and twisted. On top of that it's alway full of cyclists, tourists, and animals. As long as keep it below B pace you will be fine! Have fun... and stay alive.

Today is a band new day.... sort of. My old spread tank has been replaced by DNA free of charge after 4 yrs of usage. Check out my earlier tank spread report - it has been a small but continues problem for the past few years. Some Ducati owners got replacements and some didn't since it is not really a safety issue - yet. I am one of the few lucky one got the replacement under 5yrs CA emission warranty. BTW, Ace Motorsports did an excellent job replacing my tank. Not a single gas stain on my newly wrap headers!

Still can't believe I scored a $1900 new tank plus labour... lucky me.

Like most Ducati Sport 1000 owners, I have experienced excessive heat on the left thigh during the hot day - it got much worse at the traffic light. In the beginning I thought it was the voltage regulator under my seat; but the heat problem didn't go away after I relocate the regulator. The next thing I could try is header wrap. I personally really liked the old-school look; and I may gain a few HPs if I do it right. The main goal is hopefully the additional insulation will keep the temperature down to a reasonable level during the hot months - it is not fun to slow cook my left thigh!

I have to thank Mike passing down the left-over the wrap from his project. I believe I use about 100' of 1" width Thermo-Tech Wrap for both of my headers and 2-to-1 connector, and 4 cans of Thermo-Tec Hi-Heat Coating. The project is still going on since it take time to dry between each layer of coat, and I ran out of wrap and spray can after finish the long header...

Stay tune to the final result! Two things are going on right now - first is the exhaust wrap, second is the new tank insulation. I will post both picts of the headers and video of the exhaust sound after I done!

Ducati spreading plastic tank problem

From 2006 onward Ducati has been using plastic tank in their models, and since then there been a lot of complains about tank spreading issues - specifically on Monster and Classic, and few cases of Superbikes. Tank problem varies case by case - from spreading as much as 2" per side, to uneven deformation and anything in between. The odd thing is it only happens in the US models. Like most riders suspect, it is the ethanol added in the fuel reacts with the plastic tank and causes the deformation. Most tanks, like mine, will 'settle' in time and it won't spread any further. In my case, the spread continues since I bought the bike used back in June 2008 with 4.2k miles on it, and finally stop some time last year. No one would notice the problem unless study it closely; but the spreading could possibly cause deadly accident if the tank comes loss from the brackets during the high speed ride.

There are few solutions out there - the cheapest way is adding washer between the frame and the tank brackets to make up the spread space (which is what I did - 1/4" added per side). Just make sure you use a longer bolts and the tank brackets are secure.

The best and the most expensive way to resolve this problem is replacing the tank. But just like another motorcycle, tank probably is the third most expensive parts beside the engine and the frame. In this case, a new Sport Classic tanks costs $1900 USD. Spread tank problem will be taken care of if your bike is under still warranty. In California, gas tank is part of the emission system, which the State requires all manufacture offers 5 years warranty - that's how I got a replacement. In fact, I have just received a call from Ace Motorsports telling me my new tank has arrived for replacement! As for other states, DNA (Ducati North America) may replace it at "good will" - meaning that it is a case by case situation depend on how bad it spread...

Even-though this is not the first time for me (she is my second one), the feeling of holding a new born is still pretty shocking and touching.... especially I can actually find a trace of myself from her face... that feeling is wonderful. I feel like I am one the luckiest man in the world...

But of cause, I don't mind to "adopt" another kid like a new a Ducati 848 or Hypermotard S too... =)

Lunch was great - we had BBQ oyster over The Masrshall Store over Tomales bay. One of the 'most stop' along HW1. The store is small; but the BBQ oyster probably one of the best in the area! The store has all of their oysters suppled locally, and it is always fresh and tasty.

All the correct parts arrive on time and undamaged - well done JC Pak bikes! I got a super deal BTW... very good buying experience with JC!

Finally the sky is clear a bit, and I only have a about 4 hrs window to get it installed since the next rain storm is lining up over pacific - this is a very typical winter weather in North Cal. This is the first time I replace sprockets and chain; and there is no way I want to do it at home - so I leave to the pro to take care of it. I bought my bike to a small local shop for the installation, and only took them 1 hour to get everything done - it was a nice job. Took it to a spin - man, it was quite a difference! The bike felt alive, and I broke the speed limit while still in 2nd gear... this is not good... hahaha...

Here is what I done:

Gear ratio from Ducati factory: Front 15, Rear 38, ratio @ 2.5
Gear ration when I got my bike: Front 14, Rear 38, ration @ 2.7
Newly installed sprockets: Front 15. Rear 42, ratio @ 2.8

As you can see, it is a big jump from the factory setting - but since I got the bike with 14/38, there isn't too big of the jump for me at 15/42. However, I'm for sure can feel the different - the bike feels alive, and a lot quicker at the same amount of twist.

Can't wait to bring it to the twisties - it will be fun! :D

It has been raining pretty hard for the past 2 weeks, and finally this weekend we have clear sky - may not be as clear as summer; but I am not complaining. Twisties are still a bit wet, especially in early morning hours. With my not-so-perfect chain situation, we decided doing a short local ride in Oakland hill area. It is all cool - the important part is all my riding buddies able to make it. My chain is still in one piece without falling apart, and we all had a wonderful lunch over Bo's BBQ at Lafayette. BTW, I highly recommend Bo's BBQ - weekday from time to time they have life music, and weekend lunch is always nice and quiet. It is the best BBQ place in the area IMO.

My chain has been a bit lose since I replace the rear tire 2 months back. My ride was fine, and I didn't bother it too much since I don't have right tools to deal with it anyway. So I finally got a new torque wrench and right size socket last night to work on it. It supposes to be a simple and straight forward process... but a 15 mins job turned into 1.5 hrs of nightmare...

Here is what I did: losing the axle nut a bit, and adjust the sliding shoes on both left and right and make sure the spindle align... check the chain tension - it looks good; and I re-torque the nut back....everything works as planned - simple, right? Things just start doing downhill when I spin the wheel. Normally when I spin the rear wheel I would feel a constant low resistance; but this time.... there is a spot where I feel something got caught! After close inspection, I found one small section of the chains is not 'fitting' well into the sprocket anymore. I can actually see through the gap!!! WTF?

So... after post my problem on both BARF and Ducati MS, fellow riders suggest that I need a new set of final drive - both front and rear sprockets, and new chain. I have to admit that it is about time anyway - look at how much the chain is stretched. This could be a good excuse to get a new set of nice Supersprox sprockets and RK GB525 gold color chain.

For many experience rider, replacing chain and sprockets is just part of the regular maintenance. This is new to me... and will see how this fix will go. I will post report and pictures once it is done. Stay tune.

Finally they arrived! Mountain 1/2" drive torque wrench and 25" breaker bar. I got them from Tooltopia through Amazon. Very good price, and much better build than the crap in Sears. The entire unit is made by metal - very well build and heavy duty. It also comes with a certificate of calibration stated when the calibration been done and how well it performed. I was impressed! The only draw back is it doesn't have N/m reading - it comes with ft/lb and K/m. Can't want to see them in action. Next time when I need a new set of tiers, I can finally take out the wheels in the comfort of my own garage =D

I love my Dainese full-metal racer gloves - it is strong, fitting well, and with state-of-the-art protection. But no matter how nice and strong it is, there is no match with the cold and wet weather. I freeze my hand only after 30 mins of riding in a "good dry day" (typical good winter day in San Francisco area is about mid 40s to mid 50s - rain most of the time during windter). At the end of the freeway exit, my hand actions are always slow with horrible brake and clutch control. And yes, poor clutch control is the #1 reason of low speed bike tip over - don't ask how I know...

So... after few weeks or back and forth, I finally came to my senses and pulled the trigger - got a pair of Dainese D-dry M-21. I got a super deal from the local Dainese D-store (super helpful and freindly sales BTW - highly recommended!), and I believe it is a 2008 or earlier model. It doesn't bother me a bit... it is still a nice pair of gloves even after 2 yrs sitting on the shelf. I was originally eyeing on the more aggressive design like the Dainese M-25. But for close to 40% off... I picked M-21 without second thought. Just like any Dainese leather goods, it runs one size smaller. But what amazes me is the fitting. All of my fingers are fit well - not too long, not too short, even with D-dry interior and insulation - it feels just right. Compare with Full-Metal, it is a lot "beefier" due to the insulation; but it is still within a reasonable level without my fingers feeling like short bananas. The cuff is a lot bigger than Full-Metal - I can easily put my leather sleeve under it with room for nice hand movements. So... it is time to do field test!

After a short 30 miles local ride in low 50s... oh man... my fingers love it! It felt warm during the ride, and it stays warm even over 100mph. The fitting is super so there is no extra glove material flipping between my fingers and levers - which keeps my fingers actions quick and precise. Just like any other glove - it needs time to brake-in... even though Dainese has been well known of short break-in time; a well insulated size small gloves need some addition love... which I will gladly provide... Looking forward to the upcoming longer ride with this pair of nice glove!

Finally got a pair of gauge bracket after long search and wait. The parts are home made by one of the fellow member on Ducati MS. Unlike 99% of the parts available on the market; the brackets weren't intended to sale for profit - it is made by someone who truly loves his motorcycles. It is a very simple bracket - all it does is changing the viewing angle of the stock gauge. It improves the visibility of the gauge during aggressive riding position, and the best part is, the lower gauge cleans up the front and make the bike looks a lot cleaner and nicer.

Unfortunately, the quantity of this little mighty brackets are very limited. It wasn't meant to sale for profit, and it wasn't meant for mess production either. Currently it is no longer in production - hopefully someone able to pick it up from where it left off, and continuously contributes and benefits to all Sport Classic riders!

It has been relatively dry with over 90% humidity, and the outside temp is somewhere around 45F. With my heated gear I still able to do some short riding... The cold and wet weather keeps out a lot of younger riders off the road - which means more road surface for me :P

It was a very cold but nice ride. Without riding for 2 weeks, my Sport Classic 2 valve desmo engine couldn't be happier! Feels like a happy dog running around in my backyard :D

This happened back in Nov 09 - and yes, the police was actually looking at my ass for the SECOND TIME. My custom tail light blocked my license plate (which located all the way under the seat), and the license number can only be seen at certain angles. Oh well, another 'fix-it' ticket; another $18...

I have been looking for a long term solution; but there isn't much offered out there with a reasonable price and design. Here is the list of after-market part I can think of...

- Ducati Sport Classic License Plate Bracket by Palatov Motorsport
- WASP's Tail Chop Kit by WASP WORKS in Australia
- FLEDA system by Pak Bikes

The plate bracket by Palotoy is the cheapest amount all the options since you need reuse the existing part (the lighting unit). But the license plate holder is getting too close to the rear tire, and I really don't think it is a good idea. WASP PUK1 has very nice finish; and it is a completed unit with plug&play. But as usual, nice thing never comes cheap - with shipping it is almost $450 USD.... It is really out of my budget rang. But I still highly recommend it if you can afford it. In face, FLEDA system shares the same 'problem' like WASP - it was really expensive when they first came out - at about $480 range. Just like WASP system, price was the major factor to stop me from purchasing it. The good news is recently they introduced the new "FLEDA-SR-Lite" system cut the cost down to acceptable level; and yet still keeps the same nice low profile design with plug & play. It sounds like a winner to me, and I am sure it will be the next upgrade item on my bike.

Spotted this brand new Brammo while I was taking my coffee break at work in SF downtown. I am not surprise it gains popularity in greener city like SF - especially with a price tag of $8K. But if I have $8K to burn, would I ever consider to get a electric bike? I almost sure I won't. I rather get a used Monster, or a new 250... IMO, motorcycle is the symbol of freedom. Motorcycle supposes to be loud and wild (not cruisers kind of loud or wide - sorry, no HD is allowed in this blog :P) Where is the fun when motorcycle doesn't make engine noise? Why I have to limit myself how far I could go? Do I have to wait over-night to charge the battery? I mean.... Brammo doesn't really sounds like a motorcycle to me at all....

There is one thing I want for sure in this picture - the super awesome BMW GS1200R (AKA the biggest dirt bike in the world) quietly sitting in the background... just imagine how far you can go with the GS... all the sudden the Brammo looks like a toy for a 12 yrs old.

Maybe I'm not as green as the electric bike owner; but I ride like a real rider; and I feel proud of how I ride. Ride on!

It happened almost 2 weeks ago, and I finally have time to go back there to revisit what went wrong. All the mud tracks were washed by the passing cars after a few days; but all the sand and gravels were still everywhere by the time I took the picture...

Here is what happened:

The weather was holding up well on the weekend, so I did a quick 'local back road' loop at 3pm. There were still wet spots here and there especially the areas that under shade. There were debris left from the storm 2 days ago; but in general all the road were fairly clean even on Wild Cat Canyon. Everything was in control and nice... until I hit Alhambra (traveling east). Mad tracks were all over road! Almost every turn had something! I slowed down a bit but still hit one of the mud tracks which goes across the road - the worse part was it is the beginning of the left-hand turn! I picked the path had the least amount of dirt but my front still slide - it shaken and washed for 2 times before it gained traction again. By then I was already in the middle of the turn and I was really close to the right shoulder - and I don't even know how I pull it off without crushing into the rock on the right shoulder....

Man... I was almost $hit my pants! Luckily I didn't panic and pull the break - I just let the bike corrected itself. Lesson to learn: SLOW DOWN and LOOK AHEAD!!! Once slowed down the time I gain will help me to do a better judgment of the given road condition....

After re-adjusting the pin, now the clutch lever works VERY WELL. No more odd sound from the clutch (I did pull everything out yesterday to clean each clutch plates for the first time make sure everything is OK). The function zone still typical-Ducati-norrow; but this is the first time I able to 'feel' what the clutch trying to tell me all along...

Not every bike has a soul; but I am sure my Ducati has one =)

Along HW1 over Tomales Bay - this stretch of HW1 probably has the best pavement over the entire Bay Area!

Today also was the first time I brought my DSLR along to take some higher quality pictures. The same problem still remains - DSLR is just too big and too heavy to carry around. With my heated vest, winter leather jacket, and Kriega backpack, I felt like I just gain 20lb!

Nevertheless, it was one of nicest solo ride I have! Did I mention good lunch too? =D~

Need to do it again soon...

The ride was very nice - totally in control of my own pace in both dry and wet roads - no drama, no close-call - just simply a speedy joyful ride.

Lever update - small high-pitch noise kicked in 3 times during the ride. All happened at 1st gear when took off. Noise lasted about a second, and gone before I up shift. I suspect it caused by the longer push pin which comes with the ASV levers. I will adjust it again tomorrow, and see if the problem go away. Stay tune.

After yesterday levers installations, finally I have a chance to test it out this morning. The test also includes the newly installed heat vest jack located right under my seat on the left. Everything works really well - in fact, I was able to enjoy the ride during the test and adjustments (which is very unusual compare with the adjustment ride of the rearset - it was pain in the a$$!).

I bought a heat vest from Tour Master last year; but didn't have a chance to use it until 3 weeks ago. The cable that comes with the vest works well, but it was too short, and all the wire and heat controller created a very odd riding situation - especially the wire goes between my left leg and the tank. Finally I have time to look for a right extension wire, and now I am able to loop the wire on top of my left leg, and connect the vest to the jack under my seat - all the wire and control are out of my way now! Excellent!

For the new ASV levers - man, this is the best control I ever have! Both levers are very well made, and the level of micro adjustments are unbelievable. Brake lever now works really well. Clutch is good; but it will take me some time to get used to a shorty lever. Because it is shorter, the end of the levers somehow get in-between my middle finger and ring finger. Once that happens, I have a lot of room to play at the lower end of the action - as the result, the control fingers move (index and middle), and it affects the control of the clutch at take off. It is not really a big deal - just need to get use to it.

So far I love it! And the ride reminds me how nice of the backyard I have in Hercules!

Finally, the front end of my Sport 1000 has been addressed. I am pretty happy with the work so far based on the limited budget, and I am sure I will do more in the near future. There are many things still on my "to-do" list, like powder coating handle bars and triple tree and replacing the stock front fender to carbon fiber.... but then again - take it slow, and do it one-by-one.

Here is the list of things I have done so far to the front end:

- ASV shorty levers - the adjustments are super! I haven't test ride it yet. I will update the review once I hit the road.
- Black paint coated signals, light bracket, and headlight rim
- New bar-ends and bar-end mirrors - from Cycle gear - cost 50% less than Rizoma mirrors but just look and work as nice if not better. Finally I can see clearly what's going on behind me over 90 MPH!
- Rizoma reservoirs and arms with clear tube - Used to have sweating problem with black fuel tube (lean it my lesson in a hard way!). I switched to Brembo clean tube from Yoyodyne - not a cheap tubing but problem free so far!

View over Calaveras Reservoir - the hills are all green which is a bit unusual in Oct. There are some rocks and gravels here and there - but overall still pretty clean. As usual, most riders can't do more than 35 MPH over Calaveras, and I was taking my time today and try to enjoy the nice weather before the cold and wet winter....

BTW, the new set of mirrors work great - super clear images under high speed - I mean, up to 80mph. There is not way on earth anyone can see anything on a motorcycle mirrors above 80mph on a L-twins motorcycle - I am just happy that I have a set of cool looking mirrors that work!

Been a long while since I blog anything about my bike - everything is fine and hopefully keep in this way. Recently lost my job and I have a a lot of time now - it is time to clean up the bike. First area I need to work on is the reservoirs - the stock reservoirs is functional but look cheap, and the plastic discolors through time. So I decided to give Rizoma a try. The quality is super; but of cause, it cost 10 times more than the stock plastic reservoirs... took me 2 hrs to replace both, and I replace the tube too....

The first impression of the kid was the build quality - it was excellent! All parts fitted well, and it took me about 90mins to install the kit. Instruction was well written, and all the big pictures in the instruction really help.

Test Ride:
My bike handles much better, especially in bumpy back road - no more sudden 'hand-shake'. It improve high speed stability too. I pushed my bike over 115MPH and still feel fairly stable. I started from 4 clicks (from softest), and within a day, I pushed it to 9 clicks - it gave me the stability I was looking for, and yet without sacrificed the steering feedback. I highly recommend TMSD to all SP1000 owners.

I want to share this for quite some time - would love to share the sound of this beauty. The classic Ducati dry clutch has it's own sound, and once it is mix into the full exhaust, it just simply turns into beautiful symphony especially when it goes above 5K RPM. In case you wonder - this system is for track only (it comes with custom ECU), it is not street legal - But... who cares? :P

Man, I have been sicked for days. Still have to work since there a lot to do (well, it is a good thing in this economic time). Finally took a day off and headed to the hills - it was beautiful! The weather was GREAT - prefect riding weather. Roads were dry and not cold at all - feel like May weather... The ride really fixed me up nicely!

Finally, I got my tool box. Because of the motorcycle and home remodeling, I have collected a few power tools and compress air tools over the years. The problem is they all had their own individual boxes and holder, and things were all over the place; especially the small items like nails and screws. After I got my motorcycle, my collection grow from SAE to metric standard - from hex socket to torque wrench and anything in between. And of cause - I like to buy new tools... =D
